No — peptides are not steroids. Anabolic-androgenic steroids are typically based on a sterane ring structure (e.g. testosterone and synthetic analogs). Peptides are polymers of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. They include natural hormones (insulin, oxytocin), synthetic analogs (GLP-1 receptor agonists), and research sequences (BPC-157, GHK-Cu). Chemical structure: steroidal ring vs amino acid chain
Anabolic-androgenic steroids share a four-ring cyclopentanoperhydrophenanthrene (sterane) backbone—17 carbon atoms arranged in three six-membered and one five-membered ring. Synthetic variants modify side chains to tune receptor selectivity and oral bioavailability.
Peptides, by contrast, are linear or cyclic polymers of amino acids linked by amide (peptide) bonds. BPC-157 is 15 amino acids; GHK-Cu is 3. The structural difference is fundamental: a cholesterol-derived ring system versus a polypeptide chain. No amount of post-translational modification turns one into the other.

Receptor pathways: androgen vs peptide targets
Steroids primarily act through intracellular androgen receptors (AR), entering cells and binding nuclear receptors that modulate gene transcription. This is a genomic mechanism with hours-to-days onset.
Peptides bind cell-surface receptors—GPCRs (e.g., ghrelin receptor for ipamorelin), receptor tyrosine kinases (e.g., HGF/c-Met for dihexa), or ion channels. Many peptide effects are non-genomic with faster onset. The receptor landscape is vastly wider: over 800 human GPCRs versus one primary androgen receptor.
